The Art of Letting Go

If there’s the art of letting go

Can I have the science of it instead?

Wet the stain, scrub in laundry detergent with a toothbrush, wash as normal

Like the stain was never there

That would be great

Or give me it to me in math — no algebra please

One month for every year together

Then I should definitely be over him by now

If you insist it has to be art

Then give me a palette of bright colours and a few brushes

To paint my waves of grief into fields of flowers and trees

A sky of blue and a rainbow that never ends

I'd hang it on a wall, not dramatically above my bed

Maybe in the hallway across from the bathroom

To remind me that while the person is gone

And the pain was real

There is beauty in loving and having

And a future when I let go
